Markus Brand (Kaiserslautern15 March 1962) is a German football referee and is generally recognized as one of the top referees of the world. He has trained as adentist.

When he began in 1988 as a referee, he was the youngest referee of all time with 25 years in the Bundesliga. Four years later he became a FIFA-referee, with as first the football tournament of the Olympic Summer Games of 1992 in Barcelona. At his Olympic debut he led the game between host country Spain and Colombia on 24 July inValencia. Brand shared in that game as many as four red and seven yellow cards. [1]

Further whistled Brand the final of the DFB-Pokal in 1993, the final of the Cup Winners Cup in 1997 in the tub between FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain FC, the 2003UEFA Champions Leaguefinal between AC Milan and Juventus FC and on many international tournaments, such as the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the Confederations Cup and the European Championships of 2000 and 2004. He whistled again on that last tournament the final, between Greece and Portugal. Brand is one of the 23 referees during the2006 World Cup in Germany and has been elected four times German referee of the year.

In april 2008 Markus Brand decided to end his career. "This is an ideal time to finish bulbs", said the dentist on the website of the German Football Association DFB. "I have had a wonderful time, and I don't want that negative moments surpass the positive memories go."

Brand has so far 333 duels in the Bundesliga led. In addition, he was active during fifty international games. In 2003 he refereed the Champions League final between AC Milan and Juventus, one of the 78 European duels that he provided of its leadership. Since 1 January 2007 should he because of his age is no international competitions more flutes.
