Michael Schumacher (Hürth-Hermülheim, 3 January 1969) is a German racing driver, from 1991 to 2006 and from 2010 to 2012 active in Formula 1. He was seven-time world champion and has many other records to his name. According to the website of the FIA, he is "statistically the greatest driver the sport has ever seen". [1]
On March 14, 2010 returned Schumacher back in F1, driving for Mercedes GP with start number 3. [2] On november 25, 2012, he drove his last Grand Prix in formula 1, the Brazil Grand Prix 2012.
The French media on 29 december 2013 made known that Schumacher in a skiing accident in the French Alps in Méribel life-threatening was wounded and was transferred to a hospital. In a brief statement it gave to hospital in Grenoble that Schumacher had suffered a skull trauma and was held in an artificial coma . [3] [4] [5]

Early career[Edit][]
Schumacher began his motorsport career in karting. His father soon built him a kart in Kerpen-Manheim and made won his first Club Championship. Schumacher turned out to be a talented driver and between 1984 and 1987 he won several German and European kart races. He was the first champion of the Formel König Championship in1988. Through the Formula 3 and sports car races as a member of the Mercedes-Benz-Junior Team he made a rapid advance in racing.
1991 (Jordan): debut in formula 1[Edit][]
Eddie Jordan was looking for in 1991 a replacement for one of its riders, Bertrand Gachot, who because of a brawl in the prison had to. He left Schumacher in Silverstonetesting, where the German made a good impression. Schumacher was allowed to make his debut at Spa-Francorchamps and he fell to seventh by a qualifying time. He came into the race, however, does not go beyond a few hundred meters by a broken link.
1991-1993 (Benetton-Ford): Talent in attendance[Edit][]
Schumacher was noticed by Flavio Briatore and Tom Walkinshaw of Benetton. They hijacked him after his first race away at Jordan. In his first full season ' stuntte ' Schumacher throughout the year to end on a third place overall, for his idol Ayrton Senna.
1993 was a difficult season for Schumacher. Team Williams F1 and Alain Prost were Supreme and Schumacher ended in 1993 as the fourth, with one victory. In Portugal he managed to keep behind Alain Prost and picked up thereby its second win in his career.
1994 (Benetton-Ford): first title[Edit][]

In 1994 seemed to be the big showdown to take place between Senna and Schumacher. The first two races were won by Schumacher, while Senna fell out. Then followed the weekend in Imola, in which Senna and Roland Ratzenberger killed deadly. Schumacher then won for the third time in a row. Of the next four games he won three more, but then seemed to turn the tide. After ignoring a black flag, at the direction of his team, Schumacher was disqualified on Silverstone , making six points were lost. After a result of zero (broken engine) in "his" home race and the gain in Hungary, Schumacher was after the Belgium Grand Prix once again disqualified because of a too far worn off bottom plate and suspended for two games (Italy and Portugal). Damon Hill, after the death of the first rider of Williams, Senna could make up its backlog and unhindered was Schumacher at the start of the last race in Australia within one run approached. In the race Schumacher forced Hill to a rare error, but because Schumacher entering the bend proverbially "the door dichtgooide" both cars came into contact with each other. Schumacher fell right out of the race, while Hill still managed to reach the pit . In the pit was found however, that the car was damaged, in such a way that Hill's drive was irresponsible. The failure of Hill Schumacher delivered the World Championship of 1994 Schumacher carried on to his title on. at the end of his idol Ayrton Senna.
1995 (Benetton-Renault): second title[Edit][]

In 1995 took the fight between Hill and Schumacher on the track. In contrast to 1994, it was Australia who call themselves this year Hill and Schumacher on Silverstone andMonza . Hill could make no serious fist however this year with nine victories: Schumacher was superior. He took the World Championship in Aida for the second time inside. In August signed Schumacher for three seasons at the Italian Ferrari.
1996 (Ferrari): new challenge[Edit][]
Schumacher stepped In 1996 along with technical director Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne designer after the Italian team Ferrari. For the Italian team in recent years were characterized by reliability issues and moderate results. Ferrari hoped with Schumacher the results to be able to redirect to a final world title. Expectations were low, even by Schumacher himself, strained. Williams-Renault dominated with Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve the season 1996. Schumacher earned four pole positions and three victories. The first win came in the rain to Barcelona, where he rode on his competitors far behind. Also on Spa and Monza , he obtained victories. Contrary to expectation did Schumacher vied for the title in 1997 . Ferrari had, compared to the Williams of competitor Villeneuve, not the best car of the field. McLaren performed in 1998 superior with David Coulthard and Mika Häkkinen at the wheel. Half way through the season had Hakkinen already a big lead, but Schumacher and Ferrari did not won games they had on. After several Championship reduced the tension and it came back to the last race in Suzuka. The pole position was for Schumacher but he left his engine on the grid and had to start at the back. Here was his chance already as good as lost. He fought his way back to third place, but a blowout ended his match and Hakkinen was champion.
1999 (Ferrari): short season[Edit][]
The season of 1999 seemed to go in the same direction as that of the previous year: a fight between Schumacher and Häkkinen. Although Häkkinen seemed to be to the benefit, the beginning of the season was exciting. A heavy accident at Silverstone ended the aspirations of Schumacher. He broke a leg in multiple places. His replacement was Finnish driver Mika Salo. Luca Badoer, driver for the team of Minardi test driver the following year, whereby he became in 1999 not got the chance to prove himself in a competitive car. Schumacher made his comeback until the penultimate race. In that race he let teammate Eddie Irvine, who has the title, win. The next and last race he closed off as second behind Häkkinen, who picked up his second title.
2000 (Ferrari): patience pays off[Edit][]
Schumacher and Ferrari started the season 2000 superior. They won the first three games. Mid-season the German fell four times in five games, causing tension in the title fight came back. In Japan the decision fell in a battle between Schumacher and Hakkinen and Schumacher eventually drew the longest straw. His third world title was a fact.

With the exception of 2003 season, in which the new McLaren driver Kimi Räikkönen also fared well (two points behind Schumacher), Schumacher won the seasons 2001 to 2004 with more than 120 points. In these four years he earned 39 victories.
The years 2001-2004 are also referred to as the era of Schumacher.
To stop the German was even a new points system introduced in 2003, after he established a new record in 2002 by as the earliest ever (in a season) world champion in France.

Ferrari did better business In 2006. Schumacher seemed to be the main competitor of defending champion Fernando Alonso. In the beginning, he ran a backlog on, but half way through the season, he made catching up. After the Grand Prix of Italy, which on 10 september 2006 was held at the circuit of Monza and ended with profit of Schumacher, was published immediately after that the German Grand Prix after 2006 would stop racing. In the place of Schumacher at Ferrari, Kimi Räikkönen went next to Felipe Massa. Schumacher remained active at Ferrari. 2009 (Ferrari): Still not mass raids[Edit][]
At the end of July 2009, Schumacher his short-lived comeback in the Formula 1. He would be the replacement of the Brazilian at Ferrari Felipe Massa who during qualifying of the Grand Prix of Hungary hit and seriously injured that season probably no longer in action. On August 11, 2009, Schumacher on his own website announced that his comeback could not go. Schumacher had had a motorcycle accident earlier that year, making him a neck injury sustained. His neck was not yet capable of the great forces that exert a formula 1 car. A later comeback of Schumacher was not excluded. [6]
2010 (Mercedes): return to the grid[Edit][]

On december 23, 2009, it was announced, in a press conference that Schumacher would make his comeback in 2010. On March 14, 2010, Schumacher, driving for Mercedes GP with start number 3, back on the grid. Schumacher was at the start of the 2010 season with its 41 years the oldest driver on the grid. The German would earn 7 million euros a year with this three-year deal. In the 2010 season ended Schumacher with 72 points in ninth place in the drivers Championship.
2011 (Mercedes): again no topauto[Edit][]
Also in 2011 could make no Mercedes GP fist against teams like Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and McLaren. Schumacher finished In 2011 on the 8th place with 76 points.
2012 (Mercedes): last season at Mercedes[Edit][]

Controversy[Edit][]
There is controversy surrounding various maneuvers by Schumacher and around tactics of his teams:
- In 1994, Schumacher a black flag (disqualification) for ignoring a stop-and-go penalty. The stop-and-go he got for catch up during the warm-up lap. The driver ignored the black flag (black flag is a sign to the driver that he need to finish the game), and performed the stop-and-go later in the race. Ignoring the black flag earned him a suspension of two games on.
- Later in 1994 made a collision in Adelaide ended the title fight between Damon Hill and Schumacher. Both drivers had to give up. Schumacher earned his first title.
- In 1997 he clashed in the decisive race to the Championship with its rival Jacques Villeneuve. Schumacher retired, while Villeneuve is to world champion crowned. The FIA ruled that Schumacher deliberately acted, and took from him his vicewereldtitel.
- During Schumachers years at Ferrari was there several times fuss over so-called team orders within the team, in which one driver was instructed to let the other. Although team orders were just allowed, these measures of a team were not popular. Rubens Barrichello let in 2002 in Austria 100 metres for the finishing line catch up by team-mate Michael Schumacher. Later in 2002 the German slowed just before the finish of the GP of the United States, so that Barrichello who received the race.
- In 2006 during qualifying for the Monaco GP, in which Schumacher had the best time, he parked, with quite a few seconds to go, his car in the tight second-last corner, so that no one else could still improve his time. According to Schumacher he could after a riders error no side more, but the FIA took from him his pole position and placed him at the back of the starting grid.

In 1997 Schumacher was disqualified after an accident in the Grand Prix of Europe, where he job title competitor Jacques Villeneuve tried to drive away. Villeneuve won the Championship, Schumacher would be with the number of points that he had finished second.

[17][18]Unveiling Schumacher S corner*In 1997, DJ Visage Formula from the single, which became a hit in all of Western Europe. He reached number 25 on 1. The song is a kind of tribute to Schumacher.
- Schumacher plays in the Disney- Cars Pixarfilm (2006) a small role as a Ferrari.
- In november 2006 he was appointed honorary citizen of Maranello, the home of Ferrari.
- In 2008 Schumacher was seen in the movie Asterix at the Olympic Games. He comes out as Schumix in the chariot races for Germania.
- Schumacher got on 22 July 2007 a private corner on the circuit of Nürburgring: the ' Michael-Schumacher-S '. It was the first bend on the Nürburgring named after an F1 driver. The new name for the bend was unveiled by Schumacher for the GP of Europe itself together with Bernie Ecclestone, through a cloth pull away from the eponymous Board.
- On June 21, 2009 he unmasked himself as the The Stig in the popular motoring programme Top Gear. At the end of the program, however, was this revelation again called into question. According to an official source that particular episode indeed Schumacher sat behind the wheel of the Ferrari FXXtested. However, it remains a mystery who had the White Helmet on the other times.
