Mohammad Zafrullah Khan ( February 6, SialkotLahore1893 - 1 september 1985) was a Pakistani diplomat and a major scholar of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community.

He graduated from the Government College in Lahore in 1911 and then studied at King's College in London. After his return to India he was lawyer in Sialkot and Lahore, and he taught Law at the Law College in Lahore.

Diplomatic career[Edit]Edit

Zafrullah Khan was an active member of the All India Muslim League. In 1926 he was elected for the Parliament of Punjab. He was the first Foreign Minister of Pakistan in1947 and continued that over seven years; He also represented the newly independent Pakistan in the General Assembly of the United Nations as head of the Pakistani delegation. From 1948 to 1954 he was a member on behalf of Pakistan in the United Nations Security Council. He was President of the 17th General Assembly of the United Nations from 1962 to 1963.

He was judge of the International Court of Justice in the Hague from 1954 to 1961, and again from 1964. He was President of the International Court of Justice in 1970 to1973.

After his retirement in 1973 he remained active at the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in London and he devoted the rest of his life to the study of islam.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community[Edit]Edit

Muhammad Zafrullah Khan was an active ahmadi and was amir (President) of the local ahmadiyya community of Lahore from 1919 to 1935. He was a confidant of Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmood Ahmad, the second Caliph of the Ahmadiyya Muslim community, and regularly acted as his Secretary during the Shura.
