Paul Stewart Lawrie (Aberdeen1 January 1969) is a Scottish professional golfer.

He left school In 1986, 17 years old. He had disability + 5 and was on 1 april professional. There was thus no was born in Málaga. Also, he had the ambition of playing-go pro, but was an Assistant pro at his club. He won the first professional tournament that he played, the Moray Seafoods Open on Buck pole. When he was in 1990 also Scottish Assistants Championship on the Cruden Bay GC won, changed his ambitions.

Lawrie married in 1991 with Marian, they have two sons, Craig Robert (1995) and Michael (1998).

Tour Player[Edit][]

His first tournament on the Tour was the Johnnie Walker Asian Classic of 1992, which was won by Ian Palmer. In 1993 , he was 6th at the British Open, and he came into the spotlight. However, it took until 1996 before he earned his first Tour victory, the Catalan Open.

In 1999 came the glory. He won the Qatar Masters first and then came the British Open at Carnoustie, where he by a final round of 67 in a 4-hole play-off came with Jean van de Velde and Justin Leonard, who won the Championship two years earlier. Lawrie won the playoff with a birdie on the fourth hole. Recently, the 14th hole at Carnoustie named after him. He has also a MBE on Buckingham Palace .

In 1999 he also played in the Ryder Cup team in BrooklineMassachusetts, where he was allowed to exit the first store and where he received 3.5 out of 5 points, which is the record of Paul Way and Sergio García . Nevertheless, won the United States. At the end of the season he was in 9th place of the European Order of Merit.

To winning the British Open is a players card for five years on the US PGA Tour. In 2003 , he received the first cut on the Masters and he finished on the 15th place. In those years, however, he had nothing on the American Tour won to extend his card, so in 2004, he returned to the European Tour and played. In 2008 he won the Spanish Open in Seville.

After the fat years came a few lean years. After winning the Wales Open in 2002 he did it easy. He spent more time with his family, until the boys also went to play golf. In 2008 he won the Spanish Open and in 2011 he stood again in the top-20 of the Race To Dubai.

The Volvo world match play Championship in 2012, his 500th tournament on the European Tour. He is the 22nd Tour player who has played 500 tournaments although he is only 43 years. He is the fourth Shot that joined to the Club of 500 after Gordon Brand Jr.Colin Montgomerie and Sam Torrance, who leads the list with 700.

Lawrie got two awards In 2013. On her birthday in June the British Queen has him officer of the order of the British Empire . This he was honored for his commitment and success in golf and for the work and success of the Paul Lawrie Foundation, which he founded in March 2001 on youth to begin with golf testimuleren. A few weeks later, he was given the lesser-known Winning Scotland Foundtion Award 2012. This award exists only since 2010m and was previously awarded to Bill Walker (2011) and Willie Allam (2010)
